We have now passed the middle of November and by this time you might be wondering if winter is coming at all. Whether we like it or not, it always seems to come and with that comes cold season.
Growing up, November was my worst month of the year, simply because without fail, I would end up with bronchitis or phneumonia every single year. Ugh! It was the type of infection that lingered long after with phlegm and congestion, hindered breathing and miserable exhaustion. If I had only had a few more tools in my pocket, like this Decongestant Tea, I would have been much better off!
Now that we are entering cold season, there are many things we can do to help prevent a cold from coming, but first can we all agree that when we do get a cold, this whole congestion thing is a real uncomfortable pain in the butt?
Good! Then let's get started on this must have home remedy for when the flu does come!
What I wish I had known:
Hot teas help moisturize your mucous membranes and increase mucous flow.
Cold viruses tend to put the body into an acidic state. Lemon and apple cider vinegar help support the body by improving alkalinity which supports the immune system in fighting the infection.
Honey boosts immunity and reduces inflammation. It is also anti–bacterial, anti–viral, and anti–septic which help to clear sinus causing bacteria.
Lemon loosens congestion and reduces phlegm. It also reduces dehydration.
Cayenne triggers the release of liquids once it enters the system to cool the body, flushing congestion. The spice also relieves inflammation and prevents infection.
Mixing a few key ingredients into a hot beverage and you have got one kick butt weapon in your back pocket, or shall we say mug!
Ladies and gentleman, this is a sipper. Your not going to want to jug this tea. Enjoy it 1-2 times daily until your whipped back into shape.
Begin with a pot. Over medium heat gently warm water, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Make sure not to boil
Once warm, add manuka honey and stir until dissolved.
Pour in your favourite mug, sip and enjoy!
